Rape is what happened to you, it does NOT define who you are. It is NOT your secret to keep and It is NOT your fault. Healthy, happy, and safe, is the goal from here on out. Doesn’t mean life will be easy, but you can’t sit back hoping and waiting for a better past, all you can do is make sure the present is progressively healthier.
PROGRESSIVELY HEALTHY IS THE WAY TO GO.
Rape, Sexual Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Physical Abuse, Mental Abuse, Spiritual Abuse are all wrong! Abuse is abuse no matter the form. Evaluate your life and yourself… are you happy? are you healthy? are you moving in the right direction? DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE? If not, it is about time you found YOU.
There are many resources in your area (hopefully) that are free to the public. Research and ask people around you for other non-profit organizations. It could be the best thing you did.
“You decide whether you look at your reality or live pretending these feelings don’t exist.” (Tori Amos)
“Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no ones definition of your life; define yourself.” (Harvey Fierstein)
“Lotus flowers have strong symbolic ties to survivors. They start as small flowers down at the very bottom of a pond and then slowly grow and rise towards the surface, continually moving towards the light. Once the lotus flower has reached the surface of the water, it begins to blossom and turns into a magnificent flower.”
“The lotus flower is a symbol for courage, purity, and awakening, and it mirrors survivors’ journey toward healing and recovery. Like the lotus flower, survivors have been at the bottom of the pond but can rise above it to show their worth, courage, and untouched beauty.”
“A lotus is a flower that blooms in the mud, the deeper the mud the more beautiful the lotus blooms.”
There is an epidemic of abuse surrounding us. Children and adolescents are being sexually abused and raped far too often without anyone knowing. The silence and the fears that theses children are burdened with is too much for one little soul to handle. Many suppress and repress their assaults, some might even go farther into harming themselves. It is my belief that EVERY school should have a support system in place to help these students work through rape and the emotional trauma it bears.
Working Against Rape (WAR) Support groups would a great opportunity to help children open up about abuse and finally start to heal. It is my goal to start working on getting more awareness and support into schools so that those who have been abused have someone to turn to. I’ve seen a WAR group like this work, and I think we need to multiply what they have done and really help children affected by rape and sexual abuse.
Please spread the word and support our worthy cause. Just imagine if your friends or family could have used an abuse support group. What about your children or future children or grand-children? What if no one was there to help them in their time of need? Rape happens, sexual assault happens, abuse happens. SO many parents are unaware that their children were targets, mine definitely didn’t know. Survivors have many fears including coming forward about the abuse and not being believed or supported. If there were WAR support groups in schools, just imagine how many lives could be changed for the better. All you have to do is support the cause and spread the word. Do it for your loved ones.
